If you enjoy reading, go create a book club if you aren't apart of one yet. Heck, even if you're in one, create another one and be apart of two. If you're a mom, gather all of your mom friends, pick a book and plan a night. I promise you won't regret it. But you may be saying well I don't have time to read. Good thing for you there is an awesome invention out there called audio books! You can listen while you commute, while you clean, or while you are folding laundry. So no excuses, join or start a book club!
I joined a book club about 6 months ago. Sorry we aren't accepting any new applicants at this time. I'm kidding, but when I was invited I was definitely excited because it's a pretty exclusive group. I was invited to my first book club night, which was 4 days away. I was told if I read the book in 4 days I was allowed to join. It was kind of a joke, but I took it seriously and read The 7 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle in a matter of 4 days.
There are many benefits to being apart of a good book club. First, it inspires you to read more. Most of us would agree that we want a little more reading in our lives. It also encourages more social interaction. We meet about once every 5-6 weeks after we put the kids to bed. It's especially nice for me as a stay at home mom to get out of the house for this. It's a great escape to be able to chat with like minded women for a few hours. Of course we drink wine, champagne and sometimes even tequila. We chat about our kids, spouses, jobs, other life events, etc. It's nice to air out all of our grievances and receive some healthy advice.
I've never taken metrics of our meetings but I'm going to go out on a limb and say we discuss the book for ten minutes or less. Some books get a little more attention than others, but we definitely spend more time drinking and talking about all the life things. That's the best part! Do yourself a favor and pick up a book and start a book club. Maybe it just starts with one friend, that's ok! It will be a great addition to your life!
