If you haven't watched Schitt's Creek yet, stop reading and go open up Netflix. NOW. I know, I know you don't have time. Well, actually you do! Each episode is only about 25 minutes and it will make your life so much better. Seth and I have watched it in its entirety at least ten times now. We just love putting it on after the kids go to sleep to laugh and just feel good. For those of you who have watched it and don't enjoy it or don't find it interesting, we can no longer be friends. There I said it.
I no longer can fold in any ingredient into another without almost peeing my pants in laughter. I also have a new found love for Tina Turner. But really, I played Simply the Best on my way to every doctor appointment during my pregnancy with Jack. After a miscarriage, pregnancy is scary and I had to attend every appointment alone due to Covid so that song lifted me up as I blasted it on repeat. Yep, we played it on the way home from the hospital with our little man too.
Now why is Schitt's Creek amazing? First of all the writing is fantastic. Every story line across the six seasons is captivating and uplifting. For those of you who haven't seen it...ew David. It is about a wealthy family who loses everything and they have to move into a motel. The family of four realizes that love outweighs all the wealth every single time. The acting is top notch and Moira's style absolutely steals the show.
The best part about Schitt's Creek in my opinion, and honestly the reason I am writing a blog post about it- It depicts a beautiful same sex relationship from the very beginning all the way to the wedding. I'm not sure if you notice these things, but most shows will show a man and a woman and that's the relationship that gains the most attention. Well, not in Schitt's Creek. And it's so delightful because they don't even make it a big thing. David and Patrick aren't a gay couple, they are just a couple! For lack of a better phrase, they normalize LGBTQ relationships. We all should take a page out of their book. Some people like red wine, some people like white wine and yes there are a lot of people who love both. Let's ditch the labels and focus on the love.
